The Clarity is the first production car from Honda built around the FCX concept. Launched in 2007, it will be available for lease sometime in the summer of 2008. At present it will be leased within South California, where there is some hydrogen refueling infrastructure already in place.

Powered by a 100 kilowatt fuel cell (equivalent to 134 brake horsepower) it has a range of 270 miles and averages 68 miles per gallon. The next generation fuel cell is 65% smaller then the previous generation from Honda and is fueled from a high pressure Hydrogen tank pressurised at 5000 pounds per square inch.

Initially the Clarity will be leased at US$600 a month to private individuals within the southern california area, which already some Hydrogen refueling in place. A refueling infrastructure will be key to expanding the usage of Clarity and this will perhaps be the weaknesses of Clarity. However, Honda are being realistic in their expectations and see this as the first step on the road towards a hydrogen powered transportation.
